Before I start writing the blog, I invite you to watch the Youtube Video to realize the definition of UDL.

What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL)?

The full name of UDL is Universal Design for Learning. The Video mentions a very clear explanation that UDL is an educational framework designed by teachers considering learners from different countries and learning course contents(2017). It is a plan to enable more learners to adapt and successfully learn knowledge.

In addition, according to Amelia(2018), I know that universal Learning Design (UDL) can not only have a variety of learning methods for general education students but also can get a greater sense of belonging for students with special needs, such as some students have physical behavior disorders, deafness and so on. I strongly recommend UDL with flexible teaching methods because it meets the needs of all students in different learning areas and creates learning equality for all students.

Speaking of equality, Suzanne suggests five strategies that teachers can use to create a more nurturing, equitable, and inclusive space.

  • Use Varied Strategies to Present Content
  • Invite Students to Show What They Know in Varied Ways
  • Motivate Students By Getting to Know What They Care About
  • Reflect Diversity in Teachings
  • Support Fellow Teachers in Addressing Social Justice Issues

I believe that these five strategies include the three principles of UDL: multiple ways of expression, multiple ways of action and expression, and multiple ways of participation, as well as reflecting the diversity of teaching and providing equal learning opportunities for all students, especially those with special needs (Suzanne,2017).

In conclusion, we must be aware of the need for inclusive classrooms. To create inclusive classrooms, teachers are committed to creating an equitable learning classroom that is conducive to students from different countries and special situations. In recent years, more and more education teachers have joined the ranks of special education teachers, which fully reflects the importance of classroom inclusion. Inclusive educators often use UDL to provide equal learning opportunities for students at any grade level or in the subject area. Making them successfully learn knowledge is the greatest achievement of every educator. It must be clearly understood that UDL is not a single design blueprint for education, but a flexible learning method that can be customized and adjusted according to individual needs. In this way, educators can make the relevant knowledge available to all students.
